The ASWMC first came into being on the 9th of March 1957 to assist local motor clubs with group representation at the then RAC's Competition Department to safeguard their interests and activities. We were not the first Association as similar ones had been formed in the North in 1948 and the Midlands in the early 1950's. Back then we had just 21 member clubs, we currently have 83 member clubs making us one of the largest Regional Associations in the UK. In 1960, we introduced a Road Rally Championship, as far as we can ascertain, this was the first properly constructed and recognised Regional Association Championship in the country. We are now running 12 different Championships and have close to 500 contenders each year. All this activity cumulates in a massive Awards Presentation in early February. 2007 saw us celebrating our 50th Anniversary with a get together of past champions at the North Devon Motor Club Chivenor Sprint in September. We also have a Marshal's Register and Marshal Training Days for those of you who enjoy getting closer to the action and the organisational side of motorsport. The top ASWMC Marshal each year will win the InCompass Trophy. So could you be one of our champions? The only way is to get out there and enjoy yourself trying.
